Indian Dental InformationThe Cochin (Kochi) branch of the Indian Dental Association has been in existence since June 24, 1968. It was founded by Dr. M K James and was called Cochin Dental Society before it merged with the national organization in 1976.
Dr. James formed the society in an attempt to update members on the latest in the dental industry and also to improve communications and education amongst members, their families and patients.
Today, the IDA Kochi still exists to promote oral health to doctors and patients alike through education, patient awareness and advocacy. IDA Cochin also participates in and host continuing education programs on the local, state and national levels.
For example, IDA Kochi branch runs a free dental clinic and oral cancer detection center for past 12 years at the corporation building, Dhanya junction, Chalikkavattom, Vytila.
Clinic hours are from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. on alternate Sundays. Posting are given to members in turn. An average of 20 patients visits the clinic per day. Surgical treatments are done free of charge and medicines and dental health packs are also distributed.
